When Comedians Kill Themselves

12Mar07

How depressed does a comedian have to be to actually kill himself?

Acclaimed funny man, Richard Jeni apparently shot himself recently. Truly one of the greatest stand up artistes  ever. Reminds me of a story Rorschach narrates in Watchmen.

Heard joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he’s depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says “Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up.” Man bursts into tears. Says “But Doctor… I am Pagliacci.”

RIP Richard Jeni…

You’re basically killing each other to see who’s got the better imaginary friend.

This may seem in no way related. But that doctor thing reminds of a joke that i used to crack when i was a kid. Something like: A doctor comes to a doctor and says: “Help i’m a doctor”.

I dont get it either, but i used to LOL a lot for this.

I’ve seen this movie called The Recruit *ing Al Pacino and Colin Farell. There was this quote in the movie that Al Pacino says, “A priest goes the pope and says,”What am I to do, oh what am I to do I do not believe in God anymore” and then the pope says,” Fake it.”

    Richard Jeni couldn’t fake it.

Never one of my fav. stand-ups, but that’s beside the point rite??? Rorschach is / was arguably the greatest comic book superhero(?) – far more complex than the most intricate portrayals of Batman & The Question; & these words couldn’t ring more poignantly than they do here…

  4. @daedalus Um…I don’t get it either! 😐 Anyhoo, man you should read Watchmen…think you’ll love it!

@adolf Yeah…I love that quote…infact i was even talking about it to somebody today…

@TKM Hmmm…now that you mentioned Batman, I’m sure I know you …but from where?
